Our Chiropractic Techniques

Think of an adjustment as “tuning” a piano, adjusting each string so it produces the perfect tone.

Early on in my Bend chiropractic practice, I was all gung ho about straightening out the spines. I’ve since learned a far more profound way of looking at things. Since then, I’ve come to realization that bones are moving the way they were designed, or bones are stuck. Simply put, stuck is not good.

Diversified Adjusting Technique

“I’m a gentle adjuster and use a diversified approach,” observes Dr. Tobey. “Something that I’ve learned over all these years is that if I keep my hand soft and people relax, it hardly requires any force at all to get things moving again. Patients will say ‘That’s it? That was great!'”

Impulse Adjusting Instrument

Even so there are the occasional Nervous Nellies and the squeamish that don’t care for the chiropractic adjustment delivered by hand, so we have a hand held instrument called the Impulse, which delivers a highly targeted thrust.

Therapeutic Massage

We have a massage therapist in our practice. We have found that massage therapy and chiropractic care go hand in glove, enhancing the retraining of supporting muscles of the spine and neck.

Spinal Decompression

Especially helpful in disc cases, we offer spinal decompression. This computerized table delivers a carefully regulated stretching that opens up the spaces between spinal joints. Patients love how it feels and we love the results that it produces.

Posture Screen

Dr. Tobey has found that most physical pains are actually postural problems.”A postural problem requires a postural solution” says Dr. Tobey. “The spine should be in a certain posture and should move through a full range of motion”.

Poor posture causes the muscles around the spine to become weak, deconditioned and, eventually, painful. Dr. Tobey firmly believes posture should be checked and corrected, even in children, before more serious problems occur.

Custom Corrective Exercise Program

Based on your posture screen, Dr. Tobey will develop custom exercises for you that will help you correct any posture deficiencies and compensation patterns we identify in your screening. On your next visit, we’ll go over the exercises that were made specifically for you. This “spinal hygiene” regimen is designed for you to practice so you can have a lifetime of spinal wellness.

Ultrasound Inflammation Treatment

When necessary, we will utilize therapeutic ultrasound. The high frequency sound waves increase blood flow, reduce swelling, and enhance the healing of muscles, tendons and ligaments.
